Family Members

Parents, grandparents, siblings, and caregivers are included in the category of family members. If you hold any other title or role within a family unit or household, you also fit into this category.

I work directly with you to understand your priorities and to determine your needs.

Together, we reflect on your goals for your loved one, and for your family and find real-life strategies for supporting your loved one's learning and growth, or for providing the most effective care possible.

I always strive to respect personal limitations, values and beliefs, and understand and acknowledge who you and your loved ones are.

Clinicians and Professionals

Educators, Special Care Counsellors, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Speech Language Pathologists, and Physiotherapists are included in the category of clinicians and professionals. If you work under another title or role, and you work independently or in a clinical context as opposed to on a team, you also fit into this category of services. If you work under one of these titles, however you work as a part of a team, consult the corresponding team environment below.

You, the professionals, are of course the experts in your field, however you may experience difficulties in relation to communicating with non functionally speaking or non speaking individuals, challenging behaviour, understanding autistic thinking, or other complex manifestations of various disabilities. Perhaps you are meeting challenges in applying your methods within your current environment and reality or meeting success and providing belonging for the individual(s) being supported.

I work directly with you to understand your methods and your priorities for the service you offer.

Together, we determine where you are meeting success and where you are meeting challenges in adapting and applying your professional skills, and find real-life strategies that will enhance your existing supports and services.

I also help you reflect on your approach, methods, perspective and goals, and help you consider if they are meeting the needs of your client as effectively as possible.

Children: Schools
School Kids

Schools

Educational settings are seeing an increase in students engaging in challenging behaviour that may hinder their integration into classrooms, and leave school teams stumped as to how to intervene. Sometimes these challenges can be an unknown and unexpected puzzle, or sometimes they can be related to a known diagnosis, disability, condition or label.

From my years working in the school system, I understand first hand that there are many barriers when trying to integrate and educate some individuals, and I recognize that a neutral party can be beneficial when trying to problem solve situations.

I work directly with educational teams to understand their reality, expand their theoretical and practical knowledge and to find creative solutions that are realistic and applicable in meeting the combined needs of individuals and teams within the available material and human resources. I strive for the result of more effective existing services with fewer challenges for everyone involved.

Recreation and Camps

Camp and recreational environments can be challenging and/or overwhelming for some children. It may be difficult to integrate individuals into groups, or perhaps to set up and enforce routines, expectations, and activities, that provide a pleasurable experience for everyone involved.

From my years working in various environments including summer camps, I recognize that a neutral party can be beneficial when trying to problem solve situations and overcome barriers.

I work directly with the intervention team to:

  • understand the reality of the day to day routine

  • find creative solutions that are realistic and applicable in meeting the combined needs of individuals as well as the team

  • provide specific information and realistic tools and techniques for integrating and communicating effectively with children who use differing methods of communication,

  • provide more effective existing services while meeting fewer challenges,

all within the available material and human resources.

Children: Residences

Group Homes
Intermediate and Family Resources (RI and RTF)

Living with a group of people can be challenging and/or overwhelming for a child. Staff may struggle with balancing needs and attention, and providing combined individualized and group support. Ensuring sustained independence, personal preferences and dignity, as well as balancing unique wants and needs, may also be a challenge.

From my years working in various environments including group homes, I recognize that a neutral party can be beneficial when trying to preventatively avoid difficult situations, problem solve issues that arise and overcome barriers, while always ensuring to maintain human connection.

I work directly with the intervention team to understand their reality, as a means to:

  • find creative solutions that are realistic and applicable in meeting the combined needs of individuals as well as the team

  • provide specific information and realistic tools and techniques for integrating and communicating effectively with children with various needs and abilities,

  • provide more effective existing services while meeting fewer challenges,

all within the available material and human resources.
