Coaching for Parents, Families
and Caregivers

Uni-Diversity ParentsFamiliesCaregivers 2023.jpg

"Coaching is a process that aims to improve performance and focuses on the ‘here and now’ rather than on the distant past or future.

While there are many different models of coaching, here we are not considering the ‘coach as expert’ but, instead, the coach as a facilitator of learning.

There is a huge difference between teaching someone and helping them to learn. In coaching, fundamentally, the coach is helping the individual to improve their own performance: in other words, helping them to learn.

Good coaches believe that the individual always has the answer to their own problems but understands that they may need help to find the answer."

                                                                                Definition from: www.skillsyouneed.com/learn/coaching.html

My services specifically for parents, families, and caregivers
meet your needs by providing targeted, practical support and solutions
for the everyday reality of parenting or caring for someone else.

As a parent, family member or caregiver of someone who has a:

  • behavioural challenge

  • communication delay/disorder

  • physical or intellectual disability

  • neurodevelopmental disability (autism, ADHD etc.)

  • medical condition,

  • disorder (Alzheimer's etc.)

  • loss of autonomy, or

  • other specific special need, condition or diagnosis,

it can sometimes be overwhelming to pinpoint:

  • exactly how to do what you need to do

  • where to start when you've just received a diagnosis for someone in your care

  • what someone with diverse abilities needs

  • how to approach crisis situations and difficult behaviour

  • what services are available

  • how to apply the professional's recommendations into your everyday life

  • what can be done to help beyond what is already being done, and

  • how to promote and/or maintain independence.

My approach is intended to be different.
It is designed to help untangle complex situations by finding the root of any issue or need, and then addresses it through tips, techniques and
resources that will help produce action for real change.
It considers the person providing support as much as the person receiving,
and aims to effectively build understanding as well as skills, for both the supporter and the individual requiring support.
