THE ACCOMPANIMENT JOURNEY FOR PARENTS

I have been a parent and professional for over 25 years now.

I didn’t know when I got into the professional field of special education that I would also

have the experience of raising and accompanying neurodiverse children; three of them to be exact.

As I continue to develop and learn professional skills,

it is very common that a lot of that learning is happening parallel to my parenting experience.

This means that when I share my recommendations as I accompany you,

they are probably things that I have experimented with myself!

 

I am offering something that I often wish that I had: someone to provide guidance and make connections between our similar experiences that saves me precious time and energy.

I have no way to know where our journey will take us exactly, but I do know that you won't be alone.

Throughout your accompaniment journey, we focus on whatever it is that is on your mind and your heart in relation to your experience as a parent. Then, pulling from my personal and professional experiences, I offer you completely tailored insight, information and ideas that help guide and support you in your real life

Our journey together consists of a personal combination of both in person and online sessions, each with specific purposes and goals. The sessions may implicate only you and your child, or it could also include your child's other parent (whether you are together or separated), as well as other family members, based entirely on your personal situation.

The goal of our time together is that you:

  • gain more understanding about your child's unique learning and development

  • feel more confident in how you can support your child overall

  • increase your ability to manage the challenges in your day to day life

  • create a toolbox that helps you address whatever circumstances you're facing, including difficult and/or aggressive behavior

  • find ways to integrate professional recommendations, such as Speech and Language or Occupational Therapy strategies, into your reality

  • feel more informed about autism, neurodiversity, disability, or other diagnoses, if they apply to your situation

  • know more about navigating the different public and private support systems (ie. CLSC, schools etc.)

  • gain ideas and realistic strategies for working with the other people who are involved with your child's care and education.
